Mikasa Ackerman by Mark Dunmore
Attack on Titan is one of my favorite anime.
Set in an undisclosed time and place, Humanity is pushed to the brink of extinction by the Titans. Giant humanoid creatures who devour humans. What remains of the human race live in a city with 3 concentric walls. After 100 years of peace, a colossal Titan smashes through the outer wall, allowing smaller titans to invade the city.
In this invasion, we are introduced to the main charters of the story. Eren Yeager, Armin Arlet and Mikasa Ackerman.
Mikasa is the adopted sister of Eren. As a child, her parents were killed by a slave trader and she was saved by Eren. As a result of this trauma she quiet, withdrawn and devoted to protecting her adopted brother.
After the events of the invasion by the titans, Eren joins the military to avenge the death of his mother. Mikasa, wanting to protect him also joins the military and quickly graduates top of her class, regarded as an unprecedented genius and prodigy. Worth a hundred men in battle.
The figure went together very well only needing a few small gaps filling around the arms and legs. She was painted with a combination of Tamiya, Vallejo, and Alclad paints.
The skin was painted with a custom mix of Tamiya paints, with a layer of pre-shading using Life Color paints. Shading was done with pastels and the eyes hand painted.
A dark blue base coat was used on the eyes, adding white to the blue I gave them several highlights, after each coat I added a little more white to the mix. The pupils were then painted in and the iris and edges of the eyes lined in black.
Combinations of Vallejo off white, sky gray and London gray were used on the trousers and shirt, mahogany and burnt umber used on the strapping with the buckles painted in gun metal. Burnt Cadmium red was used on the scarf and custom browns used on the maneuvering gear. The blades and gas tanks, as well as the mechanics of the maneuvering gear, were painted in Alclad Steel then areas were coated in AK Interactive engine oil and track wash.
The base was painted gray then given several brown washes, followed by a dry brush and some edge highlighting then another wash with brown to blend it all in. The jacket was painted leather brown then again several brown washes and pastel shading were uses, the logo was painting in flat black, off white, white and sky gray.
