1:24 Aoshima Back to the Future 3 DeLorean Time Machine MKIII
This scale model was an out of the box personal build
I’ve always loved the BTTF DeLorean but was unsatisfied with the Polar Lights Release.
I was able to find the Aoshima kit at my local hobby shop, so I immediately picked it up…as well as the BTTF 1&2 kits
This kit gives you the option of the MKIII (white wall tires) or MKIV (Train wheels). I opted to go with the MKIII because the train wheels are too large. Also, the kit comes with wheel adapters for the MKIII & MKIV versions. However, these adapters cause the front end to sit slightly higher than the rear end. This is ideal for the look of the car at the drive-in (in 1955) but not appropriate for the train wheels.
The only addition I made I was adding magnet wire. It enhances the look of the interior, as it’s pretty bare. But I also supplemented the molded wiring on the exterior.
The exterior wiring was added to the 1955 Time Circuit box, and along the sides and back of the car and a couple small coils on the reactor components on the back of the car.
Aside from the addition of the wiring I used weathering powders to give it a dusty look, just like it had after ‘landing’ in 1885.
As for the car itself, the body is model master acrylic steel, the headlight/taillight fascia is Tamiya metallic gray and all the trim is model master acrylic flat black.
Though not accurate I made the interior two tone. Model Master Light Ghost Grey overall with model master acrylic Medium Grey for the trim.
There’s also model master acrylic steel, silver, aluminum, and copper highlight for the various components.
The Reactor vents are Tamiya gunmetal and the I used model master red, yellow, blue, silver, and aluminum for the various components.
