MOTY 2017 Entry Millennium Falcon
This is the 1:72 scale Fine Molds Millennium Falcon. I built it from January to March 2015 for the SciFiModelaction Forum Spring build.
The base is custom made by Jerry Hedgecock at HDA ModelWorx. The paints are urethane automotive acrylics custom mixed by me to get as close a color to the Falcon as I saw it. The weathering is done with oil paints and streaking, as well as Secret Weapon pigments for the smoke stacks. The landing leg cables are made with wire I cut and glued in, and all the lighting was done with SMDs, as well as drilling at the bottom to approximate the pattern of lights seen in Empire Strikes Back.
The open landing gear doors were scratch built since this kit does not offer those when built with open landing gear. I used photoetch in the cockpit and the landing gear. I built it with doors open but all lit up and in the act of taking off. On the inside, I scratch built a small wall and used a custom decal made for me also by Jerry to simulate the wall of the circular inner tunnel. Tried to get a pic of it. The build isn’t perfect, but I’m pretty proud of her. You can check out the build on my YouTube channel, DLC Model Builders.
