MOTY 2017 Entry Jason & The Argonauts
“The Final Battle”
This resin and potted metal kit is from Monsters In Motion and it is called “The Final Battle”
The model depicts the famous scene from the film “Jason And The Argonauts” in which the hero
Jason engages in a deadly sword fight with an army of undead skeletons.
The skeleton figures are cast in potted metal and each one came molded in a perfectly straight form.
Each skull, hand, foot, and limb were assembled and shaped by to create a unique attacking pose for each skeleton figure.
The skeletons were hand painted using a dry brushing technique with various colors of custom mixed craft acrylic paints.
Their swords, shields, and spear were also hand painted and attached in various positions of attack.
The Jason figure is a resin casting and it was hand painted with craft acrylic paints also. I paid special attention
to the detail of his clothing and body armor to have it appear as it did in the film.
The stone platform and landscape are also resin casts and they were painted and weathered using an airbrush and dry brushing methods. I added some detail to the landscape such as weeds and rocks for added effect.
I was inspired to build the kit having been a big fan of Ray Harryhausen who’s many fantasy films have thrilled moviegoers for generations. His fantastic creature creations are some of the most memorable in fantasy film history.
