MOTY 2017 Entry Talos Attacks
This is a resin figure kit from Monsters In Motion and it is called “Talos Attacks”
It depicts the scene from the film “Jason And The Argonauts in which the giant bronze statue of Talos
comes to life to destroy Jason and his crew aboard their ship, the Argo.
The figure is a resin casting and it was assembled and then painted first in a bronze base color and then multiple layers of weathering were hand painted on using and airbrush and dry brushing techniques. The colors were custom mixed to match the colors used on the original filming miniature. The paints used were all craft acrylics.
The seascape was created using clear resin and the wave tops were achieved by using a Q tip and shaping the resin by hand.
Inks in various colors of blue and white were layered in the resin to achieve the look of changing color tones and depth to
the water. The white caps were then brushed on by hand. The ship the Argo, was also hand painted and weathered using a wash of various brown and black shades. Again craft acrylics were used here.
I was inspired to build the kit having been a big fan of Ray Harryhausen who’s many fantasy films have thrilled movie goers for generations. His fantastic creature creations are some of the most memorable in fantasy film history.
